A recession which has beset the Brazilian economy for much of the last four years has been, in the main, associated with a managed devaluation of the national currency. Analysis of the impact on the travel business has been hindered by two strands of econobabble that passenger numbers are driven by both exchange rates and economic growth; both propositions are nonsense.
