Gabon’s Failed Coup and Libreville Airport

With a military coup just averted yesterday, during which the organisers urged Libreville citizens to occupy the airport and take control, today’s Air4casts chart of the day examines Libreville airport’s 2018 monthly passenger numbers. How has the airport been performing in light of Gabon’s unstable political climate?

Lagardère Travel Retail have just won a comprehensive contract to run the Duty Free shop and Relay stores at Libreville alongside a food and beverage offering to come on stream later this year.  They have taken on the concessions despite a difficult 7 month period of straight passenger declines.  Whilst there is much optimism surrounding the building of a new airport scheduled to open in 2021, the current situation is volatile.
